Unfortunately, the market plummeted. No one had done any real market research or development. Not only within the Emu group but all "Alternative" livestock groups were sitting waiting for someone else to develop markets. She had to make a choice. She could dig a hole and bury the birds she had (like so many others were doing) or stick it out…. persevere. She chose the latter!! Smart? She says, "Probably not, but it was the decision I made and vowed to live by". That decision has led to a multitude of things ranging from complete and utter frustration to total and consuming joy. Seeing projects in the making and watching markets expand. She is now one of the largest Emu Production Facilities in Canada and has complete quality control and consistency in all of her products.

During the past six years Edie has been extremely involved in several aspects of the Alternative Livestock Value Added Chain. She has taken several courses on Marketing, Pricing, Management, Food Handling, Food Handling Regulations Product Formulation, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) Implementation, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Environmental Regulations and Applications. She is well informed and knowledgeable when it comes to running a business with people, not money, in mind. The list goes on. Beginning at her kitchen table and progressing to the present, she has accomplished much!!

Edie has developed and perfected a Natural Balanced Dog Food, soon to be available on the market. This was accomplished with the help from the University of Saskatchewan Small Animal Dept. and head Veterinarian Meg Smart, The Leduc Research Station and The Alberta Agricultural Research Institute.

Edie has worked with consultants from the Saskatchewan POS Plant in Saskatoon, Regal Research Labs in Delta, BC and the NRC at the Red Deer College and the University of Alberta to develop the method and process best suited for rendering/refining Ratite fats/oils while maintaining all of the natural qualities of the finished product.

She has maintained her Emu Ranch, now with 400 breeder birds. She developed and markets her own emu product line, e3 Emu Products. Her product line is available for purchase in stores (health and drug) across Canada. Her Feather Products are sold in numerous Sports stores in BC and Alberta and are used for fly tying. These feathers and are also available in several other craft stores. Edie also manufactures feather dusters, which are sold in office supply stores, soap making shops and in novelty gift shops.

She markets meat when she can find a processor to slaughter for her.Edie is highly organized, self motivated, an entrepreneur in every aspect of the word!! She has very high standards of professionalism, honesty, integrity and straight forwardness. She is capable of handling large workloads and thrives on challenges. Edie has become well aquatinted (out of necessity) with Government Red Tape in the red meat industry, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, neutriceuticals, Environment and Federal EU Building Standards, and many more. She has extensive experience in Emu Flock Management and has written and published two books, One on Hatching Emu�s the other on Cooking Emu Meat

She has done extensive studies on the qualities of natural oils and the controversial issue of good fats vs. bad fats. She has developed a few of her own neutriceuticals, three of which are now on the market. She intends to continue her research and will bring on three more new products in the upcoming year.
